Turkish-German University

The bilingual curriculum artfully blends German academic rigor with Turkish hospitality, so every seminar feels both challenging and welcoming. Campus events like the annual “Intercultural Day” make it easy to form friendships beyond your own cohort. I never expected to feel so at home while still being pushed far outside my comfort zone.

As a mechanical-engineering student, I spend hours in the robotics and materials labs, which are stocked with cutting-edge equipment comparable to what I handled during my internship in Munich. Joint research grants with German partner universities mean we use industry-standard software and occasionally co-author papers with visiting scholars. Lecture halls are modern, but it’s the project-based coursework—building prototypes, running stress tests, and presenting to mixed German–Turkish panels—that truly sharpens our skills.

Arriving from Damascus, I worried about adapting, yet the International Office arranged peer mentors, housing, and a survival-Turkish crash course before classes even began. Faculty hold open-door hours twice a week, and my advisor routinely checks on scholarship deadlines and internship leads. Weekly cultural-exchange dinners in the cafeteria let Syrian, German, and Turkish students cook traditional dishes together, turning what could have been a lonely adjustment into a vibrant support network.
