Turkey is a common destination for Ukrainian students who want a higher education abroad. Universities offer programs from undergraduate to doctoral level, and you can study in English or Turkish depending on your language skills and the program. Fees vary widely between universities and programs.
Programs and teaching
Programs range from undergraduate degrees to master's and doctoral studies. Many combine theory with practical experience, including research opportunities, laboratory work and industry collaboration. English-taught courses are widely available in fields such as engineering, business, medicine and social sciences, which helps students who do not speak Turkish.
The universities in this post are recognized by YÖK, Turkey's higher education authority. Whether a Turkish degree is accepted elsewhere is each country's own decision, so Ukrainian students should check the rules of the country where they plan to work or study further. Language requirements and support
Many Turkish universities offer programs in both Turkish and English. A Turkish-taught program suits you if you are willing to learn the language before or during your studies. Many universities offer preparatory courses to bring your language skills up to the level the program needs.
For English-taught programs, you may need to show English proficiency with an exam such as IELTS or TOEFL. Each university sets its own requirement, so check it for the program you want.
Tuition fees and living costs
Fees differ widely by university and program. Public universities generally charge less than private ones. The program table above shows the fee for each program listed, so use it to compare.
The cost of living varies by city. Istanbul and Ankara are more expensive than smaller cities such as Konya or Trabzon. Plan a monthly budget for housing, food, transport and personal expenses before you choose a city.
Scholarship opportunities
Some Turkish universities offer scholarships to international students. A scholarship may cover part or all of the tuition fee, and it may be based on academic achievement, financial need or a specific field of study. Some universities also list a discounted tuition fee below the listed one.
The terms differ by university and program, so ask each university what applies to the program you want.
Career opportunities after graduation
Many programs include internships or practical training. Graduates in engineering, business, healthcare and IT can look for work in those sectors, including at multinational companies and startups in Turkey. Outcomes depend on your field, your language skills and the job market, so look at what a program includes before you choose it.
