The other 55 percent are spread across 49 other private universities, each with fewer Egyptian students than any of the seven. All seven are in Istanbul, which makes it the main destination for Egyptian students.
Why Istanbul leads the list
Istanbul has the largest number of private universities and the widest range of programs. It also hosts large international student populations, which helps newcomers settle in.
A big group of Egyptian students at one university tends to mean a ready-made peer network. Once a university has a steady Egyptian community, new applicants often arrive on the recommendation of students who are already there.
Popular fields among Egyptian students
Egyptian students tend to pick fields with strong career prospects. The most demanded programs are medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, engineering, business administration and psychology.

Living in Turkey as an Egyptian student
Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir are the main cities for Egyptian students. Istanbul is the largest and busiest, Ankara is more academic and structured, and Izmir is a calmer coastal city. All three have visible Arab communities.
Typical monthly living costs:
- Istanbul: 600 to 900 USD
- Ankara: 450 to 700 USD
- Izmir: 500 to 750 USD
These amounts cover housing, transport, food and basic expenses. Rent is the biggest cost, especially in Istanbul.
Public transport is affordable and halal food is easy to find. Cultural similarity makes it easier for Egyptian students to adapt.
Admission and application
The documents you need depend on your degree level and previous qualifications.
- Bachelor: high school diploma, academic transcript, passport copy and photo.
- Master's: bachelor's diploma, transcript, passport copy and photo.
- PhD: bachelor's and master's diplomas with transcripts, plus passport copy and photo.
Documents must be complete, translated where required and submitted on time. Incomplete files or late preparation can delay evaluation.
