Frequently Asked Questions and Answers

Civil engineering covers the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure such as buildings, bridges, roads and transportation systems. Many engineering graduates continue to a master's degree to go deeper into structural design, transportation engineering or construction management.
Not every university in the list below teaches the master's. Four of the six have it in StudyLeo's fee tables, and the university section says which.

A master's adds advanced engineering knowledge and research skills.
Applicants usually need a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
A master's with thesis takes 2 years, and one non-thesis master's is listed at 1 year.
A thesis program includes a research project.
The table below shows six universities: Yeditepe, Bahçeşehir, İstanbul Medipol, İstinye, Altınbaş and İstanbul Aydın. The fee tables list a civil engineering master's at four of them:
Yeditepe University: Civil Engineering, master's with thesis, taught in English.
İstanbul Medipol University: Civil Engineering, master's with thesis, taught partly in English.
Altınbaş University: Civil Engineering, master's with thesis, taught in English.
İstanbul Aydın University: Civil Engineering with a thesis (Turkish or English) and without a thesis (English).
Bahçeşehir lists civil engineering only as a bachelor's degree, and İstinye has no civil engineering program in the tables. Confirm that either one offers the master's before you plan around it.
A master's with thesis takes 2 years at Yeditepe, İstanbul Medipol, Altınbaş and İstanbul Aydın. The non-thesis master's in civil engineering at Aydın takes 1 year.
The thesis route ends in a research project. İstanbul Medipol and İstanbul Aydın also list civil engineering PhD programs, for students who want to study further after the master's.

Master's programs in civil engineering commonly cover these fields:
Structural engineering
Transportation engineering
Geotechnical engineering
Construction management
Environmental engineering
Hydraulic engineering
Among the universities above, Yeditepe, İstanbul Medipol and Altınbaş list a general Civil Engineering master's. Aydın lists two narrower programs as well: Earthquake and Structural Engineering, and Civil Engineering Construction and Project Management.
The program table below also contains civil aviation and transportation programs and a bachelor's in civil engineering at Başkent University. None of these is a civil engineering master's.
Applicants usually need these documents for a master's program:
Graduation certificate
Bachelor's diploma
Bachelor's transcript
Passport

A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field is the usual academic requirement. Universities may ask for more documents depending on the program and specialization.
